It's been way too long since I've posted on here. Let me recap the last few months:
- I moved to Tampa.
- I started two new jobs.
- I applied to three OT Master's programs.
- I spent my birthday at Islands of Adventure.
- I spent Thanksgiving with my family in Central Florida.
- I spent Christmas with my family in Pennsylvania.
- I will officially be an aunt to a beautiful niece in 3 weeks or less.
Quite an interesting few months! I love my job(s) and I am enjoying being back in Tampa, although I am anxiously awaiting my "fate" school-wise. I haven't decided how I want to handle this blog: will it be more of a personal blog or more of a crafts blog? I guess that's why I went with "Nic Knacks"...I suppose it could be both, right?
Since there's always a craft going on around here and I'm also incredibly excited about her arrival, I thought I'd show off my latest creation for my upcoming niece, Grace:
My mom bought this Jungle Jill crib set from Kohl's (don't you just LOVE Kohl's?) and we thought pulling out the giraffe print from it would be fun. I love how they came out and the best part is that it was SO EASY! I worked on them during episodes of Grey's Anatomy (I'm working on Season 6 and moving along quickly!). All you need is some blank canvases, your favorite fabric, a staple gun, wooden letters,Modge Podge, and some pretty paint. Honestly the whole thing couldn't have taken longer than a few hours of work and about $20 - works for me! :)
I can't believe 2013 is over. It has been quite a year for me...way more lows than highs. But I have to say, it started horrible and ended on a pretty good note. I am looking forward to seeing what - and where - 2014 brings me. Happy New Year!

Moving Week
It's been awhile since I've posted! I've been crazy busy packing for my move (July 12th!). Where has the time gone? I'm going to miss St. Augustine but I'm looking forward to the next chapter of the next year of my life before I head back to school in mid-2014. The movers are coming on Thursday and I'm officially making the move on Friday, with Lily and Elliot in tow. I don't know about your cats but mine DO NOT travel well. Lily meows most of the way and Elliot just stares wide-eyed. It should be a fun filled 3 hour trip to Tampa. Not really. I can't wait for this move to be over with!

Busy Bee and Disney Tee
These past few weeks have been crazy busy for me. I'm moving July 12th and the packing/organizing has begun! Why is it that you never realize how much stuff you have until it's time to move?! Ugh!
Among all the packing and organizing, I managed to put together a quick shirt for a special almost 2-year-old who will be having her birthday party this coming weekend (Happy Birthday, Isabella!).
It took me about an hour because my sewing machine decided not to cooperate with me on that particular day. I'm pretty happy with it overall considering how quickly I got through it. I started making these shirts about two months ago when I needed a quick shirt to put together for a trip to Disney with friends. They worked out great and wash really well! Below is what one of the one's I made for Disney looked like:
I decided to sew on a fabric bow instead of attach one on Isabella's shirt because I realized what a royal PAIN it is to wash a shirt with a bow. Seriously, if someone knows how to do it without the bow coming out a wrinkled mess, please share your insight!
Anyway, I believe the packing is calling. Wish me luck!

Updating CJ's Room
Hello!
I have returned from my trip to Pennsylvania. My baby brother is now a high school graduate. Incredible! The five days I was there flew by. Aside from eating out, Six Flags, shopping, family time, and staying up way too late, we managed to get CJ's new "college" room done. He was so surprised! It was definitely a team effort and totally worth it.
I traveled up to PA with all the crafts I had put together for his room. I'll admit, I forgot to take pictures of everything. But I did get some pictures!

Painted "E S U" letters for his college.
We put them up on the wall with command strips and they looked great!
It's amazing what you can do with a blank canvas and some paint.
Making this made me want to make more! Anyone need some letter canvases?!

Another canvas I worked on. I'm really happy how it came out.
(Although honestly, it was kind of time consuming/a pain!).
Overall I'm really happy with how everything turned out! Now I'm back in Florida and back to reality. Why do vacations always go by so fast? :( Can't wait to go back again!

Silhouette Collage
My brother just turned 18 this month and he'll be graduating high school in a week and a half (I'm still in denial). With all these changes, my mom and I decided it's probably time to re-do his room. Nothing too fancy; we're just re-arranging current furniture, buying a few new things, and changing out the decor. He'll be attending ESU for college so we thought the school colors (red and black) would be a good color scheme to work with.
Because I'm more of a crafter than a spender, I have been trying to come up with ideas of things to make for his room versus buy. I've come up with a few ideas that I'm currently in progress with and will post throughout the week. For now, my first completed project was this silhouette collage.
I think it looks great! The best part? It cost me $0!
What I did was find a free collage maker online (I used Fotor, but there are plenty of others!). I picked sports silhouettes and organized them how I wanted. I uploaded a picture of his school's logo (you can use any picture you want or even multiple pictures!). I changed the background color to red to go with the color scheme. Once I was satisfied, I saved a copy to my computer and uploaded it to Walgreens Photo online. I used Walgreens because I had a free 8x10 print, but any retailer would work (or you can print at home!). Within the hour, I picked it up from Walgreens, took it home, and put it in this old frame I already had. Voila!
Picture (created with Fotor) - $0
Printing (Walgreens coupon) - $0
Frame (already owned) - $0
That's my kind of project!
Stay tuned for more posts on other projects I am working on for my brother's room!

The 3 Momma's of My Life
Mommy and Me, September 1987
I am extremely lucky. I was blessed with an amazing mom, a wonderful stepmom, and a fantastic grandma. Some people don't even get one of those and I got THREE! How lucky am I?
My mom and I share an incredible bond. I get my compassion, giving heart, and zest for life from her. She has not had it easy and instead of allowing it to affect how she parented us, she was (and is!) an AMAZING mom! She can do it all and I am constantly amazed at her. My brothers and I are so lucky to call her ours.
My stepmom came into my life when I was 5 years ago and has played a hand in raising me ever since. I get my mad organization/cleaning skills, sarcastic humor, and thirst to explore and adventure from her. Often times, stepmom's are believed to be or portrayed as "evil" - not mine. I am thankful for her every day.
My grandma and I are amazingly close. Despite living only 5 hours apart, we write letters to each other. I cherish her letters. My grandma was dealt some not so great cards in her life, but she charged them and moved forward. She raised 4 children and has been a part of all her grandchildren/great-grandchildren's lives. She is kind, loves God, hilarious, and loves her family. She is the glue that holds us together.
This Mother's Day, I am reminded of the strong, beautiful women around me and how much they light up my life.

How I Use Swagbucks for Free Gift Cards
A couple of years ago, I came across a rewards site called Swagbucks. I was skeptical at first, as every reward site I had tried thus far had been a bust. It was simply too hard to earn rewards! In comes Swagbucks - a reward program that I am actually 100% confident that works! It can be intimidating to start a rewards program, as the websites are often bogged down with so many features, you don't know where to begin! So I've put together a little guide on how I best use Swagbucks. As you get used to the site, you'll find your own groove that works best for you to earn those gift cards!
Swagbucks is a pretty simple website even if it looks a little complicated. They have a lot of good prizes but the best deal is the $5 Amazon Gift Card for 450 Swagbucks (I'll call them "SB" from here on out to save my fingers some time and energy!). All other gift cards are a little pricier, but not by much! Any other $5 gift card is 500 SB. I usually try to stick to Amazon gift cards because they are the better buy, but sometimes I'll go for another if I know I'm going to use it (hello, restaurants!). You can also cash out with Paypal starting at $25, which is great if you just want cold hard cash!
The daily things you want to do on this site are the Daily Poll on the left sidebar and the NOSO button on the left sidebar. The Daily Poll will give you 1 SB. The NOSO is like 5 pages of ads but you don't fill any of them out and just click "skip" on each page. Once you get to the end, you get 2 SB. In your Inbox each day, there will often be opportunities to earn extra SB (usually an ad/series of ads that you can quickly view), that can earn you another 3+ SB. Installing the toolbar will give you an extra 1 SB a day, which adds up nicely over time.
Swagbucks is also a search engine, and you can win more SB by randomly searching. Sometimes I sit at the computer and just type random things into the search box until I win!. You can win like 2-3 times a day. I've gotten as little as 7 SB for a win and as much as 50 SB! So they do add up rather quickly. I'll admit, I don't use this function as much as I should. Often I'll get one "win" and won't try again for the rest of the day. If you are patient and willing, give it a go a couple of times through the day. You may score more than once! Also, Fridays are known as "Mega Swagbucks Day" - search those days! Often the wins are higher than any other day (that's when I earned my 50 SB for one search!).
The BEST way to earn SB faster is to do the surveys. On the top toolbar there is a button labeled "Answer" and in the drop down menu from there, you will see "Surveys". That's where you go. They change constantly through the day. Sometimes you will get disqualified from them (which sucks, but you at least get 1 consolation SB from it) but if you can get one or two a day, consider it a success! It will tell you how many SB you can get from each survey beforehand and roughly how long it will take (so you can decide if you want to commit to completing it).
Another way I earn SB is through Special Offers found under the "Discover" tab at the top of the Homepage. Often you will find easy offers that take a short time to complete and earn you easy SB! There are some offers that require you to make purchases (they are often worth 100+ SB) but I will tell you that I never do those and I still earn a good amount of SB. It's your call if you choose to complete offers that require you to spend money. But know that earning SB CAN be done without having to buy anything!
If you have the time (and interest!) Swagbucks TV is an easy way to earn some SB. I try to watch some videos a day to pick up a few extra SB. Often the videos aren't that long, and you can choose topics to watch that fit your interests. For every 5 videos you watch, you get 2 bucks. There's a little meter in the top corner that will increase by 10% for every video. Get to 100% and you get 2 bucks. You can keep doing it too (I believe the cap is 50 SB a day).
If you notice in the top left section on the home page, there is a Daily Goal meter. It changes every day, and is the daily goal of SB to meet to earn bonus bucks. Please note, you don't HAVE to meet this goal. However, if you do, it provides a nice bonus at the end of the month! Not only do you earn the daily bonus for the days you meet the goal, but you will also earn even more SB if you manage to complete the goal 7, 14, or 21 days in a row. If you complete the goal every day in a month's time, you get a bonus 300 SB! While the bonuses are nice, don't kill yourself over trying to meet the goal every day if you simply don't have the time or patience. Swagbucks should be fun and if you aren't having fun earning, take a break. (* I should note that I have only successfully completed a full month of daily goal earnings once. I simply don't have the patience all the time, and that's okay!).
So to sum it up, I'll give you an example of a typical day using Swagbucks for me:
- 1 SB from the Daily Poll
- 1 SB from the Toolbar
- 2 SB from NOSO
- 8 SB (average, will vary) from Searching
- 10 SB (varies) from Swagbucks TV
- 75 SB (varies) from completing Trusted Surveys
- 50 SB (varies) from completing Special Offers
If you total that, that's an average of about 147 SB a day!
If a $5 Amazon gift card is only 450 SB, you can see that you I can typically earn one in about 4 days if I keep on top of it. Or I can save up your bucks for other prizes or gift cards. It is ultimately up to you on what you do with your bucks!

So that's Swagbucks! I want to stress that those calculations above are my average. Some days it's higher, some days it's lower. It will highly vary from person to person. The more time you spend on it, the more you should earn! So don't get discouraged when you have low days. We all have them!
